Sustainable Tourism
walkitcornwall and sustainable tourism

OK let's be honest, presently we are not perfect.
But walkitcornwall is heading in the right direction.

We keep meeting people who are concentrating on all areas of providing a holistic approach
to tourism especially  in the vital area, to us, of transportation. We are looking for people who
are putting into practice solutions that reach far beyond a small walking business let alone the
tourism industry that we are part of.

The philosophy and central strategy of walkitcornwall
is to be sustainable on all levels of our working policy.

What we are doing:-

1. We have joined CoaST, the sustainable tourism network of Cornwall linking up with many
    like minded companies and individuals.
2. We are planting trees on your behalf for travelling to and from and within Cornwall.
3. We are trying to integrate our walks with the public transport system and are in conversation
with public and private companies about how we work in partnership on this important subject.
4. Walking is low impact and encourages well being...."solvitur ambulado"
    - solve it through walking.
5. Our day walks will be circular so that two walks will involve only one venue if car travel is
    neccessary.
6. We are looking at a vehicle that runs on non fossil fuel like biodiesel or aneorobic digestion
    (methane from grass).
7. Our printing for the day walks will be on recycled paper using vegetable dye inks.
8. All the companies we deal with will be practicing if not aware of best environmental practice.

When we discussed starting up as a tourist venture the desire to be sustainable
was not an add on to the business but the core around which all activities were based.
Realistically this will take time and we will heartily admit that we are not there ...yet.

We realised the environmental consequences of human activity twenty years ago
and the subsequent dilemmas that we are now facing.

Personal politics aside, it is the desire to implement best environmental working practice
on day to day living that will determine whether we as a company succeed.

But globally, will it be by personal choice or through drastic statutory leverage?
Now there's a debate.
