My personal philosophy of walking

Sunset over St Michael's Mount.

There are sunsets in Cornwall and there are sunsets! Jess the dog and I were chomping at the bit figuratively speaking. Snow and ice was receding and it was the first proper walk for weeks. So we went to the south coast between Prussia Cove and St Michaels Mount. We were rewarded not only with an ever changing and spectacular sunset but also a close encounter with a common Buzzard (Buteo buteo).

It was a privilege to see both with all those hardy souls who dared to be out and about in the extreme claggy mud. The further west one goes the more intense the light is. This was obvious to so many artists who set up in Newlyn and St Ives. A couple I met were extremely enthused about the contrast of light out at sea and how the lower foreshore was lit up one minute whilst the rest of the bay was in darkness. With so many legends of giants around in Cornwall and specifically Cormoran and his wife Comelian who between them contrived to site the Mount where it is presently situated one could be forgiven in thinking that we were all in the audience awaiting an epic play lit only by the stagehands of nature, such was the unique light of the waning day. The open air, coastline hugging Minack theatre at Porthcurno must be witness to this spectacle so often.

On an occasion like this I could see myself humbly asking the actors to pause for a while so that we could all observe and celebrate together this one off visual slow motion masterpiece being created in front of our eyes. Literally, blink and you will miss it. Nature, what an artist! Let the photos bear witness.
